the story

Our deep belief in recovery and the passion for helping drove us to search out a home and property big enough to serve 6 adult men at a time, with substance use issues as well as rescuing animals to utilize as part of treatment.  We know that long term recovery is not only possible but probable, with the right tools.  At Front Porch Recovery, we aim to provide each client with a robust and varied tool box of options to discover what particular elements will prove most helpful.

Dr. Katy Parker's road to creating Front Porch is paved with a personal story beginning in childhood through her current life of being married to a man in long term recovery.  Her personal story and desire to help led to her to obtain her Bachelor's in Psychology, Master's and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.

Her extensive experience ranges from providing direct therapy to the disenfranchised population in San Francisco's Tenderloin District to serving as the Executive Director of privately held intensive, residential outpatient programs. Dr. Parker was also sought out for the establishment of a new, six-bed, gender-specific substance use residential treatment program on the West Coast. Her work at the facility transforming a family home into a thriving recovery center, served as the underpinning for the creation of Front Porch.

For more than a decade, Dr. Parker also contributed to business development for major national behavioral health companies, aiding individuals, and clinicians in finding clinically appropriate treatment resources. Her extensive travels across the country to visit and assess various programs deepened her understanding of the intricacies, as well as challenges, encountered by those in pursuit of recovery and healing. The founding of Front Porch Recovery represents not just a significant professional accomplishment but also a deeply personal endeavor, encapsulating what Dr. Parker regards as her heart's most profound passion.

Dr. Parker's responsibilities as CEO of Front Porch Recovery encompass a range of critical duties aimed at the organization's success and efficacy in treatment delivery.

the fight

After arriving in Savannah to open this program, we were met with NIMBY ( Not In My Backyard ) a very typical and heartbreaking reaction to a rehab trying to open.  A vocal number of misguided, misinformed and as a result fearful, community members came out to protest recovery.  We had to fight to open, to save lives.  We won and here is the story of how we came to be.
